Bangor city centre is set to come alive this summer as Bangor Summer Festival returns with blockbuster attractions, huge live entertainment and one of the biggest free family days out anywhere in North Wales.

Returning on Saturday 15 August from 12pm until 11pm, the festival will once again spread right across Bangor city centre, bringing together live music, family attractions, street entertainment, walkabout characters, interactive experiences, markets, food, community activities and headline performances in what organisers say is shaping up to be the biggest and most ambitious Bangor Summer Festival yet.

Following scenes that saw more than 14,000 people flood Bangor city centre last summer, anticipation around the 2026 festival is already building rapidly online, with announcement posts generating huge engagement and excitement months before the event itself takes place.

Festival organisers say the event has rapidly grown into one of the largest one-day free events in North Wales, with people now travelling from across the region to experience the atmosphere, entertainment and unique attractions that fill Bangor throughout the day.

And perhaps most importantly of all, the vast majority of attractions and entertainment remain completely free to enjoy

At a time when the cost of family days out continues to rise, organisers say keeping the festival free has become one of their biggest priorities, allowing families to spend an entire day together enjoying major attractions, live music and entertainment without the pressure of expensive ticket prices.

Organisers believe that is one of the reasons the festival has connected so strongly with families across North Wales.

This year’s festival promises to build on everything that made last year such a huge success while introducing even bigger attractions, larger themed experiences and more entertainment spread across Bangor city centre than ever before.

Already announced are major attractions including the Batmobile, the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, a Doctor Who inspired TARDIS and Dalek experience, Punch & Judy shows, family magic performances, crazy golf and a growing sci-fi themed area that has already generated enormous excitement online.

One of the biggest talking points so far has been the arrival of Darth Vader and Stormtroopers as part of the festival’s interactive Galactic Academy experience.

Rather than simply watching from the sidelines, children and families will have the chance to step directly into the action themselves as part of an immersive sci-fi experience inspired by some of the world’s most recognisable characters and adventures.

Organisers have deliberately remained secretive about several elements still to come within the festival’s sci-fi themed area, teasing that further major announcements are still waiting to be revealed over the coming weeks.

Across social media, teaser campaigns surrounding the mystery reveals have already created major speculation and excitement amongst followers, with organisers hinting that some of the festival’s biggest announcements have not yet even been revealed.

Away from the attractions, the festival’s live music line-up is continuing to grow into one of the strongest programmes the event has hosted to date.

Already announced are performances from Maes-G ShowZone, Westend Academy, Côr Encôr, Flux, Pantonic All Stars Steel Band, Tenovus Choir and many more acts still waiting to be revealed as the countdown towards August continues.

Organisers say one of the biggest strengths of Bangor Summer Festival is the way the entire city centre becomes part of the experience.

Rather than focusing everything into one single area, the festival is designed to encourage visitors to move throughout Bangor city centre discovering different attractions, entertainment zones, performances and experiences as they go.

From large crowd moments in front of the main stage to quieter family experiences hidden throughout the city, organisers say the aim is to make Bangor feel alive throughout the day and evening.

Organisers say this year’s festival is specifically designed to fill the city with colour, music and atmosphere from start to finish, with steel bands echoing through the streets, crowds gathering around live performances, children spotting attractions around corners, families stopping for photographs, and visitors moving from one experience to the next across Bangor city centre.

Festival organiser Cllr Nigel Pickavance said:

“We are incredibly proud of what Bangor Summer Festival has become. Last year’s atmosphere was unbelievable and the response from visitors, businesses and traders was fantastic.

“What makes this event so special is that families can come into the city and spend the entire day here without needing expensive tickets. There is something happening right across Bangor city centre from the afternoon through until the evening.

“Every year we try to bring something new, exciting and memorable into Bangor, and this year’s festival is already shaping up to be our biggest yet.”

Festival organiser Cllr Eirian Williams Roberts added:

“This festival is all about creating memories.

“It is seeing children’s faces light up when they spot an attraction coming towards them. It is hearing live music drifting through the city. It is stopping for photos with family and friends. It is people spending proper time together and feeling part of something exciting.

“The fact the festival is completely free is hugely important to us. We know how expensive family days out can be now, so being able to offer something on this scale, free of charge, means a great deal.”

Carwyn Davies from Bangor City Council said:

“The reaction online already has been incredible and there is still so much more to come.

“The city genuinely comes alive during the festival. There is a real buzz throughout Bangor from start to finish and you can feel the excitement building already this year.

“We want people from across North Wales to make the trip and experience it for themselves because there really is something for everybody.”

One returning festival trader described Bangor Summer Festival as:

“The highlight of our calendar every year. It is incredibly well organised, the atmosphere is brilliant and the crowds are there for one thing only which is to enjoy themselves and have a fantastic day out together.

“You can feel how much people genuinely love the festival and that creates an amazing atmosphere right across the city.”

Organisers say one of the most rewarding parts of the festival has been seeing families reclaim the city centre together, with thousands of people spending the day in Bangor creating memories, supporting businesses and enjoying an atmosphere rarely seen at events of this scale.

The event also continues to provide a major boost to Bangor itself, bringing huge numbers of visitors into local shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants and businesses throughout the day.

As excitement continues building online, organisers are urging people to keep following the festival’s social media pages closely, with several more major reveals still expected before August arrives.

And with several major announcements still waiting to be revealed, organisers say the countdown to Bangor Summer Festival 2026 is only just beginning.

Bangor Summer Festival takes place on Saturday 15 August 2026 from 12pm until 11pm across Bangor city centre.

Entry is completely free.
