Gwynedd Council’s Caernarfon Record Office is offering an opportunity to see what is kept at the Archives and how to go about searching for the content by hosting a taster session on Saturday, 23 November 2019.
As part of the taster session, there will also be an opportunity to tour the building to see how the collections are kept and preserved.
The records include thousands of old photographs and records from the former county of Caernarvonshire including Bangor borough council records; programmes, accounts and photographs from Bangor City Football Club, records from the former Bangor Brewery, old documents from Bangor market, war time records and much more.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the stories, facts, places and the people that are at the heart of Welsh communities, with many archives holding special activities and inviting the public to experience, understand and take pride in the wealth and variety of material they hold.
Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on the matter said: “Gwynedd’s archives contain many interesting documents, why not come along to see what it has to offer you?
“The taster sessions offer an opportunity to connect with the area’s history and culture. I would encourage anyone who is interested in local history to book a place, everyone is more than welcome.”
The Welsh medium session will be held at 10am-12pm and the English medium taster session will be held at 2pm- 4pm. You can book a place by emailing archifau@gwynedd.llyw.cymru or by phoning 01286 679 095.
