The Tap and Spile Pub in Bangor will re-open with a fish and chip shop at its premises and a new name …. Tafarn y Garth.
The popular pub closed in August while work takes place ahead of its reopening. A Facebook competition, offering a free portion of fish and chips every week for a year for the best name, has now concluded, with the announcement of the pubs new name.
A Facebook post read: “After much deliberation and a fair few laughs, we would formally like to introduce you all to ‘Tafarn Y Garth’!
“All winners have been contacted and will be splitting the prize. We can’t wait to welcome you all soon.”
More than 500 comments with suggestions were submitted, including The Happy Plaice” “The Fish and Sips” and “The Battered Barrel”.
