Gerrards Bakery has announced they will be closing their shop on Bangor High, after more than 30 years of trading.

A notice in the shop window read: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that after serving the local community for over 30 years on Bangor’s High Street, we have taken the decision to close our Bangor shop and coffee shop.

“This decision has not been taken lightly, but Bangor’s loss of its major retailers and the significant number of empty shops has had a devastating effect on trading, with no optimistic signs of recovery for the town.

“This, coupled with soaring utility costs, high rents and the general economic climate, have made the shop’s continued operation economically unviable.

“We would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the company and all of the team to extend a heartfelt thank you for your valued custom over the years.

“We remain open in our shop in Mostyn Street, Llandudno and our other stores across North Wales and the Wirral, where you will continue to find your favourite bread, confectionary and savouries.

“Our last day of trading will be Saturday 1st July.”
