Volunteers turned out for the Bangor Spring Clean event today and despite the cold weather which included snow showers and a bitterly cold wind, a huge amount of rubbish was collected from all parts of Bangor.
Litter picking sessions were arranged at different locations across the city, including Coed Mawr, Bangor City Centre, Upper Bangor, Garth, Hirael and Maes Tryfan.
Some more unusual items included tap dancing shoes, umbrellas and the remnants of a Go-Kart in just Upper Bangor alone!
Councillor Catrin Wager, who arranged the event, said: “Thank you to everyone who braved the cold today, we’ve made a huge difference and collected an incredible amount of rubbish.”
“Let’s hope we can build on this and keep at it, so that we can tackle the litter on our streets.”
Several other areas in Bangor have been tidied up recently, including a litter pick that was organised in Maesgeirchen and work to tidy up the Caernarfon Road area under the railway bridge and the grounds of St David’s Church in Glanadda.
Contractors have also been arranged to remove large fly-tipped rubbish and items in the Trem Elidir, Ffordd Cynfal and the Penchwintan areas.
