A North Wales hospice has been recognised with a prestigious award. St David’s Hospice has received a national award for providing Gold Standard end of life care – making it the first hospice in Wales to receive the award.
The Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award is in recognition of the excellent end of life care provided by staff.
The award follows 12 months’ work towards GSF accreditation by St David’s Hospice Llandudno day therapy team. This included specialist training, reviewing care at patient level, submitting evidence of how GSF standards are embedded across the hospice and completing an assessment visit.
The award recognises organisations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred end of life care, ensuring people receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time, according to their wishes and preferences.
St David’s Hospice received the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony at East Side Rooms in Birmingham, celebrating organisations from across the UK that are leading the way in improving end of life care.
St David’s Hospice is one of 147 organisations receiving a GSF Quality Hallmark Award this year. The awards recognise 43 accredited care homes, 59 reaccredited care homes, 1 accredited primary care team, 4 reaccredited primary care teams, 5 accredited hospital wards/teams, 14 reaccredited hospital wards/teams, 4 accredited domiciliary care agencies, 8 reaccredited domiciliary care agencies, 7 reaccredited retirement villages and 2 accredited hospice teams.
Dr Gwyn Griffiths, Medical Director for St David’s Hospice, said:
“I am very proud of the team for all their hard work. St David’s Hospice is the first hospice in Wales to receive Gold Standards Framework accreditation, an achievement made possible by the excellent care delivered by our team.
