A Springer Spaniel was rescued yesterday after she went missing on mudflats at Spinnies Nature Reserve near Bangor.

 

Coastguard teams from Bangor and Anglesey were alerted at 11.23am on Saturday, 23 April, to help search for Sammy the Springer Spaniel and to prevent the owner from putting herself in danger by venturing onto the mudflats.

A spokesperson from HM Coastguard said: “The dog was heading into the Menai Strait, towards Penmon on Anglesey, and the lady was “utterly beside herself”.

The Coastguard said Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) spent two hours searching for the dog from the Gwynedd side as Penmon Coastguard Rescue Team scoured the Menai Strait using binoculars.

Eventually, Bangor CRT found the dog, which is deaf, in a gully in the Abergwyngregyn area, along the coast. The Coastguard spokesman praised the rescuers. “They did a fabulous job.”

A spokesperson from Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Bangor CRT were tasked to Penrhyn Castle Nature Reserve to Search for Dog and prevent owner going sand and mud. Searching on shoreline and using binoculars to scan the area.

“The dog was located on Lavan sands by Abergwyngregyn. two Coastguard rescue officers recovered the dog back to car park and reunited with owner. we’re happy to report that Sammy was ok.”
