An application to renovate a derelict Bangor shop will revive that part of the High Street and stop ‘tramps and pigeons’ moving in.

Planning applicant Feng Wang wants to revamp the former Gimbert’s China and Glass store at 304 Bangor High Street and he believes reviving the building can help encourage footfall to the area. He plans to create 4 living units above the shop, while improving the external appearance of the property.

Mr Wang said the high level of vacancies had seen “tramps attempting to move in”.

He also said that broken windows left unrepaired had seen pigeons move into other properties.

He added: “Currently, there are a lot of vacant shops on the high street. A lack of maintenance makes the high street look unsafe for people to shop.”

He said Gwynedd Council should work with landlords and encourage landlords to bring the vacant high street properties into “beneficial use”.

“My development meets the requirement from Gwynedd Council and helps to improve the area’s appearance and benefits neighbours,” Mr Wang added.

“Good appearance of the shop also encourages footfall to the area.”
