A Public Meeting will be held tonight, 7 December, to discuss concerns over the public bus service provision in North Gwynedd; specifically, services at school travel times.

It is hoped that as many individuals, companies, councils and councillors including everyone affected by bus service, will attend the open meeting, which is being held at Ysgol friars in Bangor at 7pm

The meeting organisers said: “In the last 6 months various cancellations and changes to timetables have impacted on travel for pupils attending Friars (and – ) out of catchment.

“We, the parents/guardians are not asking for a subsidised service. We feel these changes have been made as the Council and Transport for Wales/Traws Cymru are unable to provide sufficient capacity to meet demand and that these changes are targeting those members of our society that have the least options and the least say because they are an easy target.

“Both Welsh Government and Cyngor Gwynedd Transport and Climate Change policies include ambitions and stated pledges to increase and encourage the use of public transport. We would welcome any explanation of how the changes mentioned above fall into those plans.

“We feel that far from encouraging the very generation who will make decisions around travel that public transport is a convenient and viable alternative to the car, your actions are showing that you neither value the method nor the end user.

“Please attend the above meeting to demonstrate that this isn’t so and discuss the ongoing impact of travel disruption and the stress and upset it is causing school children at a most pivotal time in their educational development.”
