The Hirael Flood Alleviation Scheme has taken a big step forward with work to install the sheet piles, now being completed.

The work has been completed ahead of schedule which means the noise level will decrease and the work to follow will affect local residents much less.

The next step is to focus on building the concrete protection wall along the promenade. In addition to this, work has begun on the construction of the slipway opposite the Nelson pub, which will soon give the public access to the beach.

Next week, the flood gates are expected to arrive, to be installed on Glandŵr Road. Once in place, this will allow for the reopening of Ffordd Glandŵr early in the new year.

Access has also been provided for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to carry out a ground inspection work on the football pitch. This is not part of the flood protection project but part of Dŵr Cymru’s initial work, as they prepare for a significant project to improve the area’s sewerage system. More details about that work will be shared by Welsh Water soon.

The Hirael community were thanked by the contractors for their understanding and cooperation while these essential flood protection measures are being built.
