To show their appreciation to North Wales Police during the Covid-19 crisis, Hunaniaith and Menter Iaith Bangor (language initiative) have joined forces to launch a competition to create a poster to say ‘Diolch Heddlu Gogledd Cymru’ (thank you North Wales Police)

North Wales Police have worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 emergency, not only dealing with regular policing issues but have strived to keep our communities safe.

The competition is divided into different areas – Bethesda, Y Felinheli and Bangor, and will have individual winners to each area. But, they haven’t limited the campaign to the Bangor are because they’re also inviting all Gwynedd residents to create their own posters as well.

How to take part?

Families need to create their own original poster and put it up in a prominent window at their home. Then take a photo of it and send it to Menter Iaith Bangor Facebook page and note which area the poster is for.

Menter Iaith Bangor Language Initiative Chair John Wynn Jones explains: “It’s an honour for us to hold a competition and campaign like this that gives everyone in Gwynedd a chance to show their appreciation towards North Wales Police. We’re extremely grateful for their efforts to keep us safe. Here’s an opportunity to entertain the whole family and contribute towards the communal gratitude currently prevalent.”

Simon Williams, Temporary Chief Superintendent of North Wales Police said: “I would just like to say a huge thank you to Menter Iaith Bangor for your consideration of our officers and their work at this difficult time. I’m sure they will be buoyed by this campaign and your reach out to our public.”

You have until 30 June to send the posters. Councillor Gareth Wyn Griffith will be judging the Y Felinheli division, Councillor Rheinallt Puw will be judging the Bethesda division and the Mayor of Bangor John Wynn Williams will be judging the Bangor division. They will announce the winners on Menter Iaith Bangor and Hunaniaith’s Facebook page.
