Police have confirmed that several items of machinery stolen from the DIY SOS project site in Llanberis have now been successfully recovered and returned. An adult male from Llanberis has been arrested in connection with the theft and remains in custody as investigations continue.
The theft had caused concern among volunteers and supporters of the long-running BBC programme DIY SOS: The Big Build, which is known for transforming homes and community spaces for individuals and groups facing challenging circumstances. The show relies heavily on local tradespeople, suppliers, and volunteers who donate their time, skills, and materials to deliver life-changing renovations within tight timeframes.
The Llanberis project has been no exception. Despite poor weather conditions, the community has rallied around the DIY SOS team, with numerous local builders, carpenters, electricians, decorators, and suppliers stepping forward to support the build. Many have been working long hours alongside the programme’s crew to ensure the project remains on schedule.
The increased police presence expected in the village over the coming days aims to safeguard the site and support the volunteers who have been instrumental in driving the project forward. The recovery of vital equipment – including wheelbarrows and mixers – means work can now continue without further disruption.
Community members have praised both North Wales Police for their swift action and the DIY SOS team for bringing people together with a shared purpose. As the build progresses, hopes remain high that the finished project will provide lasting benefit to the Llanberis community and stand as a testament to the collective effort of local residents and tradespeople.
