Plans to build 38 flats on the site of the former Bangor City social club on Deiniol Road have been approved by Gwynedd Council.

The plans, submitted by Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) Housing Association, involve 23 two bedroom and 15 one bedroom apartments across four storeys, which will be a mix of nine social rented units, 17 intermediate rented units and 12 open market rental properties.

Set up in 2010 following a ‘yes’ vote from Gwynedd Council tenants, CCG aim to provide quality, affordable homes and services to tenants and strive to protect and develop the culture and heritage of the communities.

As a registered social landlord their primary purpose is to provide affordable rented homes to those in housing need. They are an independent not-for-profit organisation registered and regulated by the Welsh Government. Being not-for-profit means any surplus income is put back into the business so that they are able to continue providing homes and services and achieve their objectives.

The Deiniol Road development, at the corner of Farrar Road, will replace the social club that was demolished in 2013. Previous planning permission was already approved for 49 flats on the site but earlier this year CCG submitted amended plans with 11 fewer units, which were considered to be a “less domineering” design.

Vehicular access to the site will be from the Deiniol Road, in a similar location to the existing site access that was formerly used to access the social club. Onsite parking for 38 cars is provided, with 6 of the spaces being for residents and visitors with disabilities, in addition to 2 motorcycle spaces and space for the storage of 15 cycles.

CCG are also building 9 Flats at the former Play Centre (Kwik Save Site) on Bangor High Street and 8 Flats at Trem Elidir.
