Gwynedd Council have approved plans to build a new operating theatre at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
A first and second floor extension to the North-East elevation of the existing hospital would create accommodation for the new operating theatre suite.
The proposal also includes the refurbishment of an existing internal area of the hospital. The extension will create a ground floor under croft to allow for maintained access to existing hospital delivery and maintenance areas. The second floor of the extension will provide necessary accommodation for the operating theatre facility.
The new orthopaedic theatre would create 18 new jobs and expand the hospital’s capacity, however, the new operating theatre will only be built if the necessary funding can be secured.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are understood to be in the process of finalising a business case to put to the Welsh Government, in order to secure the required funding to proceed with the development.
