Papa John’s Pizza could be heading to Bangor after an application was submitted to turn a former letting agent on College Road into a ‘hot food takeaway’ – a separate application for a Papa John’s sign above the shop has also been submitted.

The pizza company was founded in the USA in 1984 and is now one of the most recognized Pizza delivery brands in the world. There are now well over 5000 stores in more than 40 international markets and territories with more than 400 stores across the UK.

Bangor is one of the target locations for Papa John’s with planning permission seeking to operate from 11:00am to 11:00pm Sunday to Thursday and Bank Holidays and from 11:00am to 01:00am on Fridays and Saturdays, which will also operate a delivery service.

Objection

Bangor City Councillors have objected to the proposal on the grounds there are too many similar outlets of this type in the area, claiming the development would cause traffic congestion and parking issues would be affected in this already congested area. Due to the flats above and a potential take-away there may be refuse collection problems leading to a build up and potential health hazards or pests.

Gwynedd Council Planning Officers will determine the application in due course.
