Next is the latest store to close over the Coronavirus pandemic. The clothing company said stores will temporarily close from 6pm today, 23 March, until further notice.

 

The retailer said: “We have made the decision to close our stores from today, Monday 23rd March at 6pm, until further notice.

“We’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of our staff who continue to be incredibly supportive of Next and we would also like to let customers know that we do appreciate their loyal support.”

Next said customers will be able to shop online as normal while stores are closed.

Earlier today Debenhams announced it will be closing, a spokesperson said: “Debenhams has taken the tough decision that due to the current circumstances we will temporarily close our UK and Republic of Ireland stores for trading from close of play today.

“Throughout these very difficult times, the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers has been of paramount importance.

“Our store colleagues have continued to demonstrate the highest professionalism and commitment and we will be working with them to support them through this process.

“We hope to be able to reopen as soon as is practically and safely possible. In the meantime, our UK and ROI customers will continue to be able to shop with us online.”

The company joins a growing list of stores to close, which includes the likes of the likes of McDonald’s and Primark, which announced full store closures on Sunday, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. McDonald’s announced that it will close every single one of its restaurants from 7pm on Monday, following concerns about maintaining safe social distancing.

Boris Johnson ordered all pubs, cafés and restaurants to close their doors on Friday to help manage the spread of Covid-19.
