Major changes are being made to the menus at High Street cafes and takeaways from January, with the likes of McDonald’s, KFC, Costa Coffee and Café Nero adding more Vegan options.
With more and more people becoming vegan or just trying it for 31 days during ‘Veganuary‘ whether it‘s for your health, the environment and animals, it’s now a lot easier to take the Veganuary challenge!
McDonald’s Veggie Dippers
McDonald’s will start selling its first fully vegan meal – Veggie Dippers – with adult and child options available.
Made with red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas, they’re then coated with light and crispy breadcrumbs, and have been certified as vegan compliant as well as gluten free.
They will cost £4.99 for four with fries and a drink, or £2.99 as a Happy Meal.
You can also buy four Veggie Dippers separately for £3.29.
Greggs Vegan ‘Steak’ Bake
The vegan steak bake has been created to mirror some of the original snack’s features, including 96 thin layers of puff pastry but without the egg glaze. The filling is made with pieces of Quorn instead of beef, mixed with diced onions and meat-free gravy.
The steak bake will compliment the popular vegan ‘sausage’ roll, launched by Greggs last year.
Costing from £1.55, it will go on sale in 1,300 shops from Thursday before being rolled out to the remaining 700 outlets on 16 January.
KFC Quorn Burger
Following in the footsteps of Greggs and McDonald’s, fast food chain KFC is launching a new vegan option. From January 2, the fried chicken expert will be selling a vegan chicken burger made with a Quorn fillet. The meat-free fillet is coated in the Colonel’s iconic Original Recipe, with 11 herbs and spices. It’s served with vegan mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce in a soft-glazed bun
KFC’s fully vegan chicken burger will now be available in every single one of its stores, full-time, following a successful trial last summer.
Available in all KFC restaurants from January 2, costing £3.99.
Costa vegan ham and cheeZe toastie
Costa Coffee launch vegan ham & cheese toastie for January 2020. The delicious, meat-free, Quorn Smoky Ham and tasty melted CheeZe offering is sandwiched between two slices of freshly toasted golden vegan bread.
It will be available in stores nationwide from £2.95 from Thursday 2 January.
Marks and Spencer vegan chicken kiev
A soya based kiev with a vegan-friendly garlic sauce coated in golden breadcrumbs is now available in M&S stores from January 2, costing £3.50.
