Local residents enjoyed a hearty roast lunch at the new over 50s lunch club which opened in Hirael School, Bangor, this week. The lunch was also attended by the new mayor of Bangor, Councillor John Wynn Jones.

The lunch club has been launched by the Royal Voluntary Service for Gwynedd and Môn in partnership with Bangor University’s Student Union and will take place every Wednesday during school term at 12:45pm.

Local residents will be served a warm, nutritious meal each week, giving them the opportunity to get out an about and socialise with other members of the community. The first two weeks are free and there will then be a charge of £5 per person which covers the cost of a two-course meal and a panad. Transport can be provided for those who need it.

A spokesperson for the Royal Voluntary Service for Gwynedd and Môn, said: “Everyone was so very happy in our new lunch club today. Thank you to those who attended, the staff at Hirael School and the Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who helped us and for the Mayor of Bangor and his wife for their support, we are looking forward to next week already!”

To attend the lunch club you will need to book (on a first come first served basis) by phoning the Royal Voluntary Service on 01248 661915 or email Gwenda.hughes@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk
