Hywel Williams MP is holding a workshop on tackling poverty in Arfon, to be held in Bangor on Friday 15th March.
As Hywel Williams MP explains: ‘Poverty has always been a big problem in Arfon. Many jobs are low paid, insecure or seasonal. 14 years of austerity has created a cost of living crisis, which has hit the people of Arfon hard.’
‘I have spent the last 21 years trying to make things better for the people of Arfon. I have campaigned on matters like the Local Housing Allowance, Winter Fuel Payments and PIP for example.’
‘I commissioned this project to find lasting answers to the hardships our residents face, to make an impact now, and in the future.’
Hywel Williams commissioned Wales’ most innovative think tank, the Bevan Foundation, to undertake research into the causes and impacts of poverty in the constituency. The findings of the research project were published in a report which can be found here.
Hywel Williams MP to run the workshop and will be joined by Dr Steffan Evans will give a presentation explaining the key findings of the research. The event will be facilitated by
Catrin Wager, Policy Officer for Plaid Cymru Arfon, who explains:
‘This event will be about finding solutions. Too many people are struggling to make ends meet, and we need to be taking radical steps to change that.’
‘I hope that by coming together we can pull together some concrete actions, and I would welcome anyone who wants to contribute to the discussion to join us.’
The event will be held at Nyth, Fran Wen 9.30-12.30 on the 15th March.
