Morrisons in Bangor will be spreading a little happiness in the community with an amazing gardening giveaway.
Shoppers who visit stores or order online (from Monday 12 April) will be able to pick up one of 2.5million sunflower seed packets being given away (whilst stocks last) as part of the supermarket chain’s Seeds of Hope campaign, which is designed to help brighten up customers’ window boxes and gardens.
The dwarf sunflower seeds are perfect for planting with the kids, or to add a little colour to your home. All you need to do is pop the seeds in some soil, water and leave in a sunny spot, then wait for the magic to happen. You could even try your hand at making a fun plant pot to put them in – just check out our handy video below.
The seeds will be offered to customers in packs of 10 by checkout staff after they have finished their shopping but will also be included within Morrisons online shopping orders for those still not shopping in-store.
Morrisons is known for making good things happen in the community. Its stores have Community Champions who, on top of their day job, work with the public, local charities and organisations to help their community.
The Community Champions often donate to local care homes and the foodbank in Bangor and have recently donated Easter eggs and water to the staff and volunteers at the mass vaccination centre in Bangor.
Morrisons has also launched a ‘Little Sunshine’ award, to recognise people who have helped their local communities throughout the pandemic. Its stores will deliver certificates and gifts to hundreds of children nationwide.
“This has been a very difficult year for our country and this winter has seemed especially dark and tough,” said Morrisons CEO David Potts, who said the seeds were a “message of hope”.
“As spring arrives, and with Covid seemingly in retreat, we want to help celebrate the growing sense of national optimism by planting these sunflowers across the UK, representing the brighter and lighter times of hope ahead,” he added.
