The kind hearted residents of Uxbridge Court in Bangor have been busy knitting hats, scarves, gloves and blankets for St Mary’s Hostel.

The elderly residents, who live at the warden supported apartments, have also donated items of food and other clothing that will be distributed to the homeless in and around Bangor.

St Mary’s is a self referral hostel providing accommodation for up to 13 homeless people, in 2 buildings in Bangor and is managed by a full team of support staff on a 24 hour basis.

Because St Mary’s hostel is often full, they also offer a ‘gate service’ to the homeless, offering food three times a day as well as other essentials such as tents, sleeping bags and blankets, which have been donated by the public.

Welsh Government figures suggest only 25 ‘rough sleepers’ in Gwynedd

Welsh Government figures for 2016-17 estimate there are 25 people ‘sleeping rough’ in the whole of Gwynedd and just one person on Anglesey, in reality the number is probably much higher in Bangor and the surrounding area alone.
