From 11 October 2021 you must use the NHS COVID Pass in Wales to show that you are fully vaccinated or have tested negative to attend large events, nightclubs and other similar venues.

In a knife-edge vote this week, the measures were agreed in the Senedd with 28 politicians voting for and 27 voting against.

The Covid Pass applies to:

  • nightclubs and similar venues
  • unseated indoor venues with more than 500 people in the audience
  • any outdoor or indoor venues with a capacity over 4,000, including seated venues
  • any event, of any nature, which has more than 10,000 people in attendance

If you are over 18 you can get into large events and nightclubs from 11 October 2021 by proving:

  • you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • have tested negative for COVID-19 (lateral flow test taken 48 hours before event or attending venue)

Get your NHS COVID Pass (on nhs.uk). https://covid-status.service.nhsx.nhs.uk/

To prove you have tested negative for COVID-19, within 48 hours of the event or attending the venue:

take a free lateral flow test https://gov.wales/get-rapid-lateral-flow-covid-19-tests-if-you-do-not-have-symptoms

report your test result (on GOV.UK) https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

Results emailed or sent by text message are also considered proof of a negative test.

How to access the NHS COVID Pass in Wales

You can access the NHS COVID Pass via the NHS website (nhs.uk). This will allow you to produce a COVID pass using a smart phone, tablet, computer or laptop.

To access the service, you’ll need to register for an NHS login. You will need to upload a photo of your ID (passport, full UK driving licence, full European driving licence etc.).

If you live in Wales, you cannot get the Pass via the NHS app as this is only valid in England.

If you do not have photographic ID or a relevant smart device you will need to request a paper NHS COVID certificate.

Your NHS COVID Pass includes a barcode. It is normal for the expiry date to be 30 days. The expiry date refers to the barcode and will update automatically every time you log on to the service. It does not apply to your vaccination status.

If you have a shorter expiry date, then it is likely that you have not fully validated your ID. You will be given an option to fully validate your ID in order to get a Pass with a longer expiry date.

Children

At the current time there is no COVID pass for under 16s. If you’re travelling abroad you may need to show proof of a COVID-19 test.

We are working with the UK Government to develop a system for under 16s

If you are registered with a GP in England

If you live in Wales but are registered with a GP in England you may need to access the NHS App service for England as we may not have access to your vaccination record.

Request a paper NHS COVID-19 certificate

You should only request a paper COVID Pass if:

  • you have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine (you should wait 5 days after your final dose before requesting it)
  • you are aged 16 or over
  • you do not have photographic ID

Call 0300 303 5667 to request a COVID Pass if you are unable to use the digital NHS COVID Pass.

It can take up to 10 working days for a certificate to arrive. No requests can be fast tracked and certificates cannot be collected.

You can call 7 days a week between 9am and 5pm.

Calls are typically charged between 2p and 40p per minute and are included in free call packages.

GPs cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 status.

If your personal details are wrong you will need to contact your GP. Your COVID Pass will only show your first forename and surname.
