HBO has unveiled the full trailer for its highly anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen comic book, which filmed scenes at Penrhyn Castle in Bangor.
Taking inspiration from Alan Moore’s graphic novel of the same name, Watchmen is HBO’s first attempt at superheroes and it looks to be a slick, modern adaptation of the classic comic, rather than the 2009 movie. Courtesy of Damon Lindelof, the series appears to be an enthralling mixture of new and old with quotes familiar to fans of the original comic.
The trailer was shared during the second day of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the mind-blowing epic full trailer sees cops turn vigilante, squids fall from the sky and Regina King “cuss too much.”
As the Doomsday clock ticks, all on earth is chaos. There’s a superheroic upheaval, investigations from cops (masked and unmasked), and a rise in the number of supers.
Watchmen has an all-star cast including Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Miami Vice star Don Johnson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, there’s also an appearance from Louis Gossett Jr.
Filming took place at Penrhyn Castle for a month last September, when the house and gardens were transformed into a ‘major film set’ for the first time. Jeremy Irons was seen several times in the area during the month long filming in Bangor.
The National Trust described the filming at as “an amazing opportunity for Penrhyn Castle and garden to play its part in an exciting and new experience, and to highlight our places and work to a worldwide audience.”
HBO will be airing Watchmen October, 2019.
