On Sunday 8th October, a group from the Diocese of Bangor departed for Lira in Northern Uganda, where they visited the Good Hope nursery schools, which are supported by people from the Churches.
Charles and Helen Owens (Bro Dwynwen) were joined by Canons Kath Rogers and Emlyn Williams as well as Canon Robert and Kath Townsend, from Bangor Cathedral.
The group then visited the nursery schools in Omot, Lira, Banglada Landings and Kayoga Fishing Village. They also be took part in worship in churches around Lira on Sunday 15 October and met with friends, old and new, in the link Diocese of Lango.
The Diocese of Bangor has a history of partnership with the Anglican Church in Uganda, and the Diocese of Lango. The Lango Diocese is centred on the town of Lira in central northern Uganda, not far from Lake Kyoga.
For over 20 years people in the Diocese of Bangor have run and supported a charity called LOST, the Lango Orphans Scholarship Trust, where people gave money to enable orphaned children in Lango to be educated. Due to the effects of civil war and disease, orphans were, and are still, many in number.
The group returned to the UK on Saturday 21 October.
