Siân Gwenllian, Plaid Cymru’s candidate for the Senedd seat of Arfon says that “the Welsh Labour Government’s lack of political will means that the Parc Bryn Cegin scandal continues.”

Discussing the ongoing “scandal” of Parc Bryn Cegin, Siân Gwenllian said: “It is scandalous that not a single job has been created at Parc Bryn Cegin since the Welsh Labour Government took ownership of the site 20 years ago, despite spending more than £11M on it.

“In 1999 the site was advertised as being able to host up to 1,600 jobs, however there are no businesses trading there.

“I have been challenging them about this since I was elected in 2016 and have called for an independent investigation.

“I understand that there will be further investment at the site as part of the North Wales Growth Deal with new business units being built.

“Time will tell if that will lead to new jobs.”

Talking of possible uses for the future, Ms. Gwenllian said: “We need more high quality jobs in Gwynedd and given its strategic location, I still think Parc Bryn Cegin would be a good site, but it does need the political will of the Welsh Government behind it and I’m afraid that’s been missing for the last 22 years.

“The focus is always on the M4 corridor.

“Should Plaid be leading the Government after May 6 or in a position to influence Government decisions, that could change as we are determined to spread prosperity across Wales.

“We’re determined to see a new focus on our area.

“It would be areas like ours that would benefit from Plaid Cymru’s election pledges to generate 60,000 green jobs, our Local First principle to increase Welsh firms’ share of contracts from 52 to 75 per cent, and the creation of Prosperity Wales, an arms-length development agency to focus on growing small and medium-sized Welsh firms.”
