Adra housing association has submitted a planning application to convert the former H&M store on Bangor High Street into office space.

The building is currently vacant and has been since the closure of H&M in early 2021.

Adra have a desire to relocate from their current office in Parc Menai Business Park and have decided on this two-storey building as their preferred location. They wish to amend the internal layout of both floors to include entrance lobby, reception, office spaces, meeting rooms and ancillary facilities.

It’s also expected that other local partners will make use of the facilities from the site to meet customers and collaborate on projects to attract further customers to the high street.

According to the design and access statement, the proposal will enhance rather than have a detrimental impact on the character, vitality and viability of the primary retail areas.

By re-locating to Bangor high street Adra would bring between 50-70 staff members to the high street between Monday and Friday, which will in turn contribute to the wider economy and encourages further office use on the high street.

Creating a viable use for the unused building will provide life to a building which has been empty for 15 months and will support a Welsh Government priority in regenerating the High Street’ of our towns and cities in Wales, according to the statement.
