Dr Barry Hounsome, 54, who had previously worked at Bangor University, has been found dead at his house in Gosport, Hampshire.
A 16-year-old boy from Gosport, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, after police were called to the Dr Hounsome’s house in Gosport on Monday night.
Dr Hounsome, who has more recently worked at the University of Southampton, lectured in health science and has conducted research into diseases including Parkinson’s disease. His wife Natalia, is a lecturer in health economics and has worked at several universities in the UK.
A spokesperson from Bangor University said Dr Hounsome contributed to studies at the university with fellow medical professionals.
Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman Nikki Holt said: “Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“A 16-year-old boy, from Gosport, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.”
