A planning application has been submitted to build a Costa Coffee Drive-thru next to Harvey’s New York Bar & Grill off Caernarfon Road in Bangor.
The drive-thru would be built on land next to Harvey’s and according to the planning application the proposal would ‘maximise the potential of a vacant site’. The proposed development would share the same access that is used to access the Harvey’s restaurant.
There are already several large retail units in the area, in addition to this, planning has recently been approved for a new drive-thru KFC, which will replace Topps Tiles.
A transport report submitted with the planning application said that the Harvey’s development is not related to the proposed Costa and said: “It appears that the number of users is unlikely to affect the local roads network to an entirely unacceptable degree, and it was agreed that improvements would have to be made to the local roads network to be paid for by the applicant”.
The report adds: “It is likely that a high percentage of existing users of the other units would use this facility, as there is nothing similar nearby. It is acknowledged that a number of the other shops have fairly small cafés, but no formal restaurant like this.
“It is not, therefore, believed that this development would lead to a substantial long term increase in movements within the local area as this already exists.”
The report concludes that the site is close to public transport links and it is, therefore, believed that it would also be accessible to users of this type of transport.
The main points from the report are:
- There would be no notable traffic impact
- There would be significant potential for linked trips connected with surrounding commercial units and
- The site is accessible by public transport.
