Bangor City Council is calling on residents, community groups, local organisations and volunteers to come together for a city-wide clean-up as part of preparations for this year’s Gŵyl Haf Bangor.
The Mayor’s Pride in Bangor Clean-up Day will take place on Thursday, 6 August, from 11am to 2pm, with volunteers meeting at Penrhyn Hall (Town Hall), Ffordd Gwynedd, Bangor.
The event will be led by Mayor Cllr Delyth Russell, who is encouraging people to spare an hour—or stay for the whole event—to help ensure Bangor looks its very best ahead of the popular summer festival.
The initiative builds on the success of a similar clean-up held during a previous mayoral term, which brought together councillors, community groups, organisations and volunteers to make a visible difference across the city.
Bangor City Council’s Maintenance Team will be joined by Cyngor Gwynedd’s Ardal Ni Team, who will provide equipment and a support vehicle to help volunteers tackle litter and improve the appearance of key areas around the city centre.
Refreshments and food will be available throughout the event, and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear.
Whether people can give an hour or the full three hours, everyone is welcome to get involved. Organisers say the event offers a great opportunity to meet fellow residents, take pride in Bangor and help create a cleaner, more welcoming city for both residents and visitors.
The clean-up also follows Bangor City Council’s recently announced partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd on a Bangor Deep Clean Trial, with street cleaning and cleansing teams set to carry out a major deep clean in the city centre later this month as part of wider efforts to improve Bangor’s appearance.
Anyone wishing to take part in the Mayor’s Pride in Bangor Clean-up Day, or who has ideas that could help make the event a success, is encouraged to contact Bangor City Council.
The council hopes the community effort will help ensure Bangor is looking its best as it prepares to welcome visitors for Gŵyl Haf Bangor Summer Festival on 15 August.
