A Coleg Menai Performing Arts student has landed a starring role in a legendary soap opera’s new spin-off series.
Poppy Burns, 17 from Waunfawr, Caernarfon, got the part of Lleucu in the brand new ‘Rownd a Rownd’ spin-off series ‘Copsan’.
She has also been starring in a short film called ‘Yes/No-Ya/No’, playing a character called Nia. The film has been funded by the police force and will be shown in secondary schools across Wales in September to educate pupils.
In a break from filming, Poppy – who is a class representative and an Active Ambassador for the college – spoke about her desire to be an actress and her time at college: “I've always known that I wanted to be an actress”, said Poppy. “Therefore, I decided to do a course based on performing at college in order to follow my dream.”
“Since being on the course I’ve had the opportunity to increase my stage performance skills, strengthen my voice and raise my confidence levels. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with experts in the film and television industry.
“I enjoy the mix of things we do on the course: from an acting workshop in the morning to a street dance class in the afternoon. If I was to describe myself in three words, I would say passionate, motivated and loving.
“If you are willing to work hard, and have an interest in being on stage or working behind the scenes, I think you’ll enjoy the course a lot! Don’t worry if you have very little experience, the course is there for you to learn and develop your skills.”
From a college perspective, Poppy recently took on dual roles in a show full of duets and dialogues staged at Pontio in Bangor: Desdemona from ‘Othello’ and as Sarah from ‘Our House’.
