A Christmas shoebox appeal has been launched for the homeless people in Bangor, with the aim of providing a gift they wouldn’t normally receive and containing essential items that will make a positive difference to their lives.

The concept is simple: wrap a shoebox in Christmas gift paper and fill it with items and a message for the recipient. The boxes will be collected and distributed to homeless men, women and young adults in Bangor.

Completed shoeboxes can be dropped off at DW Sports, UNDEB Bangor (Students Union which is on the 4th floor of Pontio) and the Academi Shop, they will be collected on 15th December and then donated to St Mary’s Hostel.

Lauren Toal, who is organising the appeal, said: “This is the third year I’ve organised the shoebox appeal, it has been an amazing success making a positive difference to people in the community in the past two years.

“Most of the items on the list are every day essentials that we may take for granted but would be greatly appreciated by those in a little more unfortunate position than ourselves.

“You can fill up a shoebox by yourself, as a family, with your housemates or your friends and help put a smile on someone’s face this Christmas.”

A Facebook Group has also been setup for more information and where you can ask questions and follow the progress of the shoebox appeal. CLICK HERE

Donations are being collected from the collection points; Academi coffee shop, DW Sports and Bangor students union on 15th December
