Former student Nikole Roberts is taking to the stage at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, representing Team Wales in weightlifting.
Nikole, 22, from Bangor, studied at Coleg Menai’s Bangor campus and successfully completed her Level 3 in Public Services in 2022. Since graduating, her athletic career has skyrocketed, establishing her as one of the nation’s premier lifters.
Nikole will be competing in the Women’s 44kg weightlifting event.
“I’ve been looking forward to this day for so long,” said Nikole during the run up to the Games.
Nikole enters the 2026 Games on the back of an outstanding string of performances on both the national and international stages.
She is currently ranked 7th on the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Commonwealth Ranking List for Glasgow 2026 and won Silver at the 2025 British Championships.
Nikole represented Wales at both the 2024 and 2025 Commonwealth Championships, bringing home Bronze medals from both events. She also claimed Silver at the 2025 European Senior Championships after competing at the 2024 European Junior Championships.
Nikole is also currently the only Welsh athlete selected for the British Weight Lifting World Class Programme.
She holds the Welsh women’s 48kg lifting records with an impressive 72kg snatch, 85kg clean and jerk, and a 157kg total.
