A Land Rover Discovery that was found burnt out at Llanllechid near Bangor, is now part of the investigation into the murder of Gerald Corrigan on Anglesey.

Mr Corrigan, 74, suffered “horrendous” injuries on the morning of 19 April this year, when he was shot with a crossbow outside his home in Holyhead, Anglesey. Mr Corrigan had been taken to the major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital, but he died of his injuries four weeks later.

North Wales Police said inquiries had indicated that Mr Corrigan had been deliberately targeted and four people from Anglesey were arrested on Tuesday in relation to the incident.

Police have now appealed for information on the movements of the Land Rover Discovery before it was found burnt out.

The white Land Rover Discovery, registration number CX68 YTE, was found burnt out at Llanllechid on Monday, 3 June. The vehicle was subsequently reported stolen from an address in Engedi, Anglesey.

Detective Chief Superintendent Wayne Jones said: “As part of the investigation into the murder of Mr Corrigan we want to establish the movements of the Land Rover Discovery on June 3. I would appeal to anyone who saw this vehicle travelling from Engedi to Llanllechid to contact us”.

On Tuesday, June 25, as part of the investigation into this arson, two men from the North Gwynedd area were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson and assisting an offender. Three local properties linked to them have been searched.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jones said: “The investigation is at an early state and both men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries. These arrests were in addition to those arrested in connection with the death of Mr Corrigan.”

Yesterday (Wednesday, June 26) North Wales Police were granted a further 36 hours to question the four suspects arrested in connection with the death of Mr Corrigan and related offences.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jones said: “From our enquiries to date all indications are that Gerald Corrigan was deliberately targeted and shot outside his home address. I am extremely grateful to those who have already come forward with information, but I am certain there are people in our community with key information who have yet to contact us. I appeal to them to please come forward and speak to us in total confidence.”
