Bodnant Medical Centre’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign has got off to a flying start.
The Bangor surgery had received 240 doses of the vaccine and was able to administer all of them today, Friday 22 January. The vast majority were to patients aged over 80 and registered with the practice. Patients who were unable to attend the surgery were visited at home.
GP Dr Nia Hughes said: “The surgery has been given assurances that regular supplies of the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine will be arriving over the next few weeks, to vaccinate all those who are eligible as soon as possible.
“To avoid wasting the precious vaccine, a small number of patients in the over 70 age group has been vaccinated today, as not all the patients over 80 were able to attend. We will ensure that everyone in the older group who could not attend today will be prioritised when the next batch of vaccine arrives.”
Retired music teacher Valerie Ellis was amongst the patients who received the vaccine this morning. Valerie, whose daughter Dr Catrin works at the surgery, said: “I’m thrilled to be given the vaccine today and can’t thank the staff enough. The last few months have been tough for all of us, and being vaccinated gives me hope that 2021 will be a better year!’
Dr Hughes added: “We respectfully request that patients do not call the surgery to enquire about vaccination appointments. We are working as hard as possible to immunise everyone as quickly as we can.
“We are privileged to be part of this campaign to protect the health and welfare of our patients against the effects of Covid 19. We thank our patients for their patience and cooperation at this very busy time”.
