Black History Month Wales, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of Black people to the development of British society, technology, economy and arts & culture, will be launched in Bangor this Saturday 28 September, 12-4pm.
The event starts at 12pm at the Bangor clock tower, where there will be a live drumming performance by Bloco Swn.
Black History Month will be formally launched by Bangor’s Deputy Mayor Owen Hurcum, who is delighted to have this opportunity to recognise Bangor’s diverse population.
Year on year Black History Month is proving to be one of the most engaging, lively and welcoming events in Wales’ cultural calendar. It serves both as an educational project and an entertaining experience for those interested in and inspired by African and Caribbean Heritage and the Welsh connection.
Black History Month Wales’ unique flavour draws on a wealth of historic and current connections – explored through a host of activities for families, children and people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The afternoon will be full of artists and performers – all local. These include rappers Lizzie Squad, trumpeter and guitarist Nebbz, Cuban drumming group and Capoeira Mocambo workshops. They will be supported by dancers, poets and singers. Food will be provided by Freed’em Food.
Everything is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
