North Wales Police’ Roads Crime Unit have officially announced the dates for its 2026 BikeSafe workshops, aimed at helping to keep motorcyclists safe on the roads.

The UK’s No 1 police-led motorcycle safety initiative has been expanded this year to cover new workshop locations which will be delivered at Colwyn Bay, Bangor, Wrexham, Llangefni and Pwllheli from April to September.

BikeSafe is a national initiative aimed at working with motorcyclists to develop key skills around riding and safety. The day-long workshops include classroom-based theory, looking at causation factors and solutions and an observed ride where participants get vital feedback.

The North Wales BikeSafe workshops are subsidised by North Wales Police and the North Wales Road Safety partnerships and are available at a subsidised fee of just £78 per rider.

The workshops are delivered by experienced police motorcyclists, as well as our fantastic and dedicated approved volunteer Observers and cover matters such as cornering, road positioning, observation, hazard perception and much more.

Following registration, the workshop will include a classroom input before the participants are taken out on an observed ride. After their return there will be a debrief with written assessment provided.

Inspector Leigh Evans, of North Wales Police Roads Crime Unit said: “Whether you’re a new rider of have years of experience, BikeSafe helps you sharpen your skills, boost your confidence and enjoy every ride that little bit more.

“This is an extremely important initiative as sadly, we continue to see motorcyclists feature disproportionately in our road traffic collision figures.

“With the main aim of reducing the number of bikers being hurt on the roads, these fantastic workshops explore the main riding hazards that motorcyclists face. By delivering theory presentations and observed rides a BikeSafe workshop helps bikers discover their strengths and weaknesses.

“We hope that the additional locations of Pwllheli, Bangor and Llangefni will make it easier for riders from across the area to access advanced rider development opportunities closer to home, and with small group sizes, spaces are limited to keep the experience personal and high quality.

He added: “Whilst we are encouraging bikers to take responsibility for their own safety by continuously refreshing and improving their motorcycle skills, we are also asking drivers to please take extra care and look properly for bikers particularly at T-junctions.

“Our team are all bikers at heart, and our workshops are as enjoyable as possible whilst giving the best opportunity for riders to improve their skills and make them get the most from their bikes whilst staying safe.
