It has been a busy period at Bangor University, with the work and studies coming to an end for Christmas and re-starting again in the New Year. A large number of students graduated during the University’s Graduation Ceremonies in mid-December.

In early December, a Christmas Tea Party was held to celebrate 70 years of volunteering by Bangor students. The Tea Party project was launched in 1952, and it has helped to keep local older people active in our communities and reduce loneliness and isolation.

A Tea Party full of celebrations was held on 3 December, allowing students and the local community to come together and acknowledge the longstanding partnership. Performances of ‘A Christmas Carol’ by the Bridge Theatre Ensemble were also held in Menai Bridge before Christmas, with the Students Union Brass Band and University Press contributing and participating in a very successful production to help the local community at a challenging time for many.

As part of the ‘On Tour’ project, M-SParc, the University’s Science and Innovation Park, have found a home on Bangor High Street. The first few months have been successful, with a range of individuals and groups visiting to take advantage of the facilities and specialist advice for students and businesses e.g. how to start and grow a business. Further events will be held in the new hub over the coming months. In January, M-SParc will also be promoting their ‘Dewch yn ôl’ campaign. The campaign helps to attract people back to the region in order to start businesses or fill jobs that contribute to the north Wales economy and skills.

Looking ahead, the launch of the University’s new Community Collaboration Fund in January will help University staff to encourage civic engagement activities with external partners. The Pontio programme for the community continues with Caffi Babis (monthly), yoga sessions, and dance for Parkinson’s (weekly).

The Bangor Music Festival will be held in Pontio on 17-18 February. The University will also participate in the St David’s Day celebrations in Bangor.

Bangor University look forward to updating you on the University’s work and relevant developments during the year.
