Alumni from Bangor University’s Rostra Theatre Society have reunited for their annual 48-hour Shakespeare project. This year’s endeavour culminates in a performance of a condensed version of The Merry Wives of Windsor, set to take the stage at on Saturday, 22 February, at JP Hall.
The tradition, now in its 11th year, sees graduates returning each February to collaborate with current society members. Together, they embrace the challenge of producing a Shakespearean play within 48 hours. The process began on Thursday evening when they opened a mystery envelope revealing their play, propelling them into two days of intensive rehearsals and preparation.
All proceeds from the performance will be donated to three charities: UKMasto, Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club, and Forward (Scunthorpe Branch). UKMasto supports individuals affected by Mastocytosis and mast cell activation disorders, while Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club is a long-established amateur theatre company in North Lincolnshire, staging multiple productions annually. Forward (Scunthorpe Branch) is dedicated to providing support and resources for individuals facing various challenges in the community.
The Rostra Theatre Society, recognised as Bangor University’s oldest amateur dramatic society, is known for its relaxed and enthusiastic approach to all things drama and stage-related. Their annual 48-hour project not only showcases their commitment to the arts but also their dedication to community engagement.
Join the Rostra alumni and current members this Saturday for an evening of Shakespearean indulgence, all in support of worthy causes.
Entrance to Saturday’s performance is free, with all on-the-door donations being donated to the charities.
