Bangor will take part in the annual Wave of Light on Wednesday, 15 October, as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, a global event honouring babies who have died during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after.

The event, organised by Angladdau Enfys Funerals Ltd and Robin’s Trust, with support from Friends of Garth Pier, invites the public to gather at Bangor Pier gates at 5.45 pm Participants will see the pier illuminated in pink and blue, the official colours of Baby Loss Awareness Week, before joining a candlelit walk to Enfys Funerals, about a mile away.

Upon arrival, the Enfys Funerals building will also be lit in pink and blue as part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness and show solidarity with families affected by baby loss. At 7 pm, attendees will take part in the Wave of Light, lighting candles in remembrance as thousands of people around the world do the same, creating a continuous “wave” of light.

There will be an opportunity to add names to Enfys Funerals’ memorial tree, and light refreshments will be provided after the walk. Those who wish to dedicate a light on Bangor Pier can do so at bangorpier.org/product/sponsor-a-light.

What is the Wave of Light?

The Wave of Light is a global remembrance event held every year on October 15, the final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week (October 9–15). Families, friends, and supporters light candles at 7 pm local time to honour the lives of babies lost too soon.

Originating in the early 2000s, the event is now recognised internationally, with landmarks, hospitals, and homes illuminated in pink and blue lights. In the UK, it is supported by a coalition of baby loss charities including Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity), Tommy’s, Bliss, and others.

The Wave of Light offers a moment of reflection and connection, bringing together bereaved families and the wider community in shared remembrance and support.
