Get ready to step back in time and dance your way through the decades, as local ska and soul enthusiasts bring the spirit of the legendary Barrels and Joop days back to Bangor for one unforgettable afternoon.

On Saturday, April 19th, the Castle Pub in Bangor will come alive with a celebration of smooth soul, super funk, and timeless grooves, courtesy of Michael Williams and Malcolm Williams. Running from 3pm to 9pm, this six-hour soul party promises to hit all the right notes, whether you were smooth and soulful in the 60s, super funky in the 70s, elegant in the 80s, nice in the 90s, or naughty in the 00s.

The event has a strong dose of nostalgia built in, and Michael Williams is no stranger to the scene, having once been a DJ at the legendary Barrels nightclub, the very venue that inspired this soulful throwback. Now, years later, he’s teaming up with Malcolm Williams, known for his Soul on Sunday show on MônFM, to reignite those same good-time vibes for a new generation.

“We’re bringing back the Barrels Joop days just for one afternoon,” said Michael Williams. “If it proves successful, we’ll definitely look at doing more events like this.”

Michael added, “Malcolm has been researching the bands that have performed in Bangor over the years. We will open the set with some fantastic bands from the punk, ska, new wave, and rock eras. Join us for a trip back in time!”

Attendees can expect a rich mix of music from across the decades, feel-good vibes, and a welcoming atmosphere filled with classic tunes and fresh energy. Whether you’re reliving the golden days or discovering the soul scene for the first time, this event promises to deliver the best of both worlds.

Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to come along, have some fun, and show support for the return of Bangor’s beloved soul and ska culture.
