19th–25th May marks Dementia Action Week, a national campaign to raise awareness and improve the lives of people affected by dementia. With 982,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK — a number expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040 — the cause is more important than ever. In North Wales alone, it’s estimated that 11,900 people are living with the condition.
To support the cause, the annual Bangor Pier Walk returns this Monday, 19th May, starting at 11:00am from Byw’n Iach Bangor (Swimming Pool). Participants will enjoy a relaxed and accessible walk to Bangor Pier and back, followed by a warm cuppa and a friendly chat.
Now in its third year, the event is organised by Gwenda Hughes of Ffeind Cyf, in collaboration with Dementia Actif Gwynedd and the North Wales Memory Pathway.
“Dementia is close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be organising our Bangor Pier Walk again this year,” said Gwenda Hughes. “All funds raised will go to support dementia care, with Plas Hedd Care Home in Maesgeirchen chosen as this year’s local cause. The walk has become a cherished part of Dementia Action Week — people really look forward to it. Bring your family, friends, carers — even your four-legged companions are welcome!”
