Hywel Williams, Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon, joined local constituents outside Parliament to lobby the UK government about the deteriorating climate crisis facing the planet.
Heather Bolton and Geraint Prydderch travelled from Bangor to join activists taking part in the Extinction Rebellion rally in London.
Hywel Williams MP reiterated his party’s commitment to action on climate change and said that the current levels of inaction on environmental issues shows how broken our political system is.
The Plaid Cymru MP also met sixteen year old climate change activist and Nobel Prize nominee Greta Thunberg, who was in Westminster for cross-party talks to discuss the UK’s response to the deteriorating ecological crises.
Hywel Williams MP said: “To know with utmost certainty that our current treatment of the environment will lead to irreversible and catastrophic damage, but to do so little about it, shows how broken our political system is.
“No one is immune from the effects of climate change, but it is future generations that will face its worst consequences. Without fast, meaningful and intensive climate action we will soon be facing a real and immediate existential crisis.
‘I was pleased to meet with Heather and Geraint who travelled from Gwynedd to join other activists outside Parliament to lobby the UK government to do more to address the deteriorating ecological crises facing our planet.
“It is young people, like Greta Thunberg, who are inspiring change. School strikers, local activists such as Heather and Geraint and Extinction Rebellion are at the forefront of the environmental conversation. But we need more than talk, we need action.
“I hope this is the first step in putting climate change at the top of the political agenda, so action can be taken in the little time we have left to address this irrefutably important issue.”
