Bangor City 1876 have begun the search for a new first-team manager following the resignation of Michael Johnston.

The club are inviting applications from ambitious and driven candidates capable of leading the newly promoted side in the Cymru North and building towards an eventual return to the top level of Welsh football.

Johnston left his position with immediate effect last week, citing increasing work and family commitments after more than five years in charge.

Bangor City 1876 are seeking an “ambitious, organised and driven” manager to lead and develop the senior squad both on and off the pitch.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a clear playing identity and high-performance culture, plan and deliver training and match preparation, and recruit and retain players within the club’s strategy and available resources.

Developing younger and emerging players alongside experienced members of the squad will also be central to the role, as will building strong relationships with players, staff, supporters and the club’s leadership.

While experience of Welsh domestic football is desirable, the club says the strongest candidate will be someone with a clear vision, the ability to develop people and the personality to lead an organisation with significant expectations.

The stated objective is to challenge at the top end of the Cymru North and ultimately secure promotion to the Cymru Premier.

Bangor earned promotion after dominating the Ardal North West last season, scoring 123 league goals and losing just once on their way to completing a league, cup and League Cup treble.

The club also enjoyed a memorable run to the Welsh Cup semi-finals, having defeated four consecutive second-tier opponents. A crowd of 2,814 watched their quarter-final victory against Caerau Ely at Nantporth.

The recruitment pack highlights Bangor’s proud footballing history, including eight Welsh Cup triumphs and European ties against clubs such as Atlético Madrid and Napoli.

It also points to the club’s youth pathway, which runs from junior teams through to the development, under-21 and senior sides.

Bangor says £650,000 has been invested in its facilities during the past year, including a full-size 4G playing surface, changing facilities, analysis and meeting spaces, and access to gym and strength-and-conditioning facilities. The club also has a partnership with Bangor University’s Sports Department.

Applicants must provide a CV and covering letter outlining their coaching background, football philosophy, leadership approach, relevant qualifications and reasons for wanting the position.
