Chris Chadwick, who had £50 stolen from him while he was busking in Bangor, has thanked people who have raised more than £1,100 for him.
The money was taken from Chris’ guitar case as he played outside WH Smith on Bangor High Street on Wednesday, with his guide dog by his side. The shocking incident was filmed by a passer-by and the evidence was then passed onto the police.
A Just Giving Page was setup to help Chris replace the stolen money but within minutes the donations started to pour in. The page has raised over £1,100 in just 24hrs, with hundreds of messages of support form the local community.
Chris, 23, who lost his sight at the age of 15, said: “I just want to take the time to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s come forward to support me in this past 24 hours.
“It’s both humbling and heart warming to know how many people actually really care about the community.
“I never expected someone to open a donation page, but when I discovered that this was the case, I was almost brought to tears by the kindness and the generosity shown to me.
“I can’t even begin to thank the community and the people, who I barely know, for coming forward with their support and their words of encouragement as well.
“I’ve already had so much support from both friends and strangers alike, and I don’t know how to thank you all for your kindness.”
North Wales Police have confirmed that two local men have now been charged in connection with this incident and have been remanded to appear before Llandudno Magistrates Court.
Police added: “We would like to thank the local community for their assistance.”
