Harvey Williams, 13, from Bangor, will be boxing for Wales in a match against England, in London today.

Harvey, who attends Ysgol Friars, trains four times a week at Maesgeirchen Boxing Club in Bangor, under the watchful eye of his great uncle and coach Brian ‘Bach’ Williams.

In April, Harvey won the Welsh title, fighting at the Welsh Elite Open Schoolboy Championships in Swansea. Harvey fought in the 34kg division and beat tough southpaw Kieron James from Pontypool ABC in the semi-final before defeating Aaron Williams of Gelligaer in the final. Both wins came with unanimous decisions.

Local Councillor Nigel Pickavance wished Harvey all the best prior to the fight, saying: “Good luck to our very own Welsh Champ Harvey Williams today as he represents Wales v England today in London. Win or Lose, The City is proud of your achievement bud!”
