Bangor University have applied to refurbish and improve the former Psychology block on Deiniol Street (just off College Road) for medical education purposes.
This scheme has been developed in conjunction with Bangor University’s Estates Management development plan to refurbish existing buildings within its estate to facilitate teaching, learning, and research.
The building, which is adjacent to the main university campus, would provide a purposely designed ‘Anatomy Teaching Space’ with all the specifically required arrangement details as advised by LEEC Ltd, who have consulted on the project, and will supply the fit-out.
Given the nature of the ‘Anatomy Teaching Space’, access to the ground floor facility for staff and students would be controlled through a contained air lock, with lockers and a changing area. This would also suggest the most rational area for a ‘Tea Room’ would be up on the first floor to reduce the risk of contamination.
On the first floor of the scheme it is proposed to also have another lockers and changing area adjacent to the ‘Clinical Skills Room’ to teach practical patient consultation and examination skills.
External work to the building would be minimal, but would include new windows and privacy fencing.
This proposal has been developed by Bangor University with consultation of Gwynedd Council, and has incorporated the feedback into the design. In summary, it is considered that the proposals are in accordance with, and positively contribute to, the aims of planning policy
at national and local levels.
