A much-loved symbol of Welsh football culture is on the move once again, as the giant Wales Bucket Hat currently based at Bangor City Stadium is looking for a new home.

The ten-foot by ten-foot fiberglass bucket hat, originally created during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has become an instantly recognisable emblem of Welsh football fandom. After touring locations across Wales – including Swansea, Cardiff and Wrexham – the colourful sculpture arrived in Bangor in December 2022, where it was first positioned near Storiel Museum before later being relocated to the stadium.

Bangor City Stadium announced via social media today that it is now time for the hat to move on, offering other clubs, community projects or businesses the opportunity to benefit from hosting the unique piece of football history.

In a statement, the stadium said it had been “honoured to receive the Welsh FA bucket hat” but felt the time was right for it to continue its journey elsewhere. Interested parties are being invited to get in touch to arrange collection.

The original relocation to the stadium was carried out by Tacluso Ardal Ni, a team from Gwynedd Council, supported by Hughes Specialist Transport Ltd., with a crane used to carefully lift and transport the sculpture from Bangor city centre. At the time, the move was welcomed as a way of celebrating the national team’s achievements and providing a new photo opportunity for visitors and fans.

During its stay, the hat also formed part of wider improvements at the stadium, which has undergone significant investment to enhance its role as a sports and community venue.

Anyone interested in giving the iconic bucket hat a new home is encouraged to contact Bangor City Stadium directly via email ffion@bangorcitystadium.com to discuss arrangements.
