If your ex still bugs you, Pili Palas on Anglesey has come up with a solution that’s equal parts petty and hilarious.

The popular attraction, known for its butterflies, reptiles and insects, has launched a tongue-in-cheek scheme that turns heartbreak into humour – with the help of a few of its less cuddly residents.

For just £2.50, visitors can now name a cockroach after a former flame. In return, you’ll receive a digital certificate by email, while the chosen first name is added to the attraction’s “Roach Wall”, proudly displayed beside the hissing cockroach enclosure.

Romantic it isn’t – but cathartic it certainly might be. The promotion’s tagline says it all: “Does your ex still bug you?” Judging by early interest – and the reaction online – the answer appears to be a resounding yes.

Social media users were quick to see the funny side. One commenter asked: “What’s the biggest one you got? I’m willing to pay an extra 50p for that specific one.” Another declared: “All cockroaches are better than my ex,” and another joked “I’ve dated worse.”

Crucially, organisers stress that only first names are displayed – so no full-name shaming here, just a subtle, crawl-worthy nod to closure.

Whether it’s a joke gift between friends, a tongue-in-cheek Valentine’s present for an ex, or simply a way to laugh at heartbreak, the campaign has struck a chord by blending humour, harmless revenge and creepy-crawlies in equal measure. For those keen to get involved, the offer is available online here.

Love may fade, but apparently, cockroaches (and grudges) live on. 🪳
