Llandudno Football Club will continue to play their ‘home’ league fixtures at Nantporth in Bangor, after their 3G playing surface was deemed to be unsafe.

The club, who play in the Tier 2 of Welsh Football, the Cymru North, installed the artificial pitch in 2014 at a cost of £500,000, aiming to benefit the community and turn the town into a “football hub”. The project was jointly funded by the Football Association of Wales (FAW), with funding from Menter Môn-Cyfenter, Sports Council for Wales and Conwy County Borough Council.

However, a recent pitch inspection by UEFA and the FAW identified a ‘slight health and safety issue in one area of the pitch’.

The Seasiders played their first fixture at Nantporth on Friday night, 28 October, a 3-1 win against Chirk.

A spokesperson from the Nantporth Community Interest Company said: “CIC are pleased to confirm that Llandudno FC, will play their home games at Nantporth until repairs are completed on their own pitch.

“We welcome the chance to assist them and this further strengthens the use of the stadium. With CPD Merched Bangor looking to the long term and are unbeaten in the league this season this bodes well.

“In addition, community use is accelerating with Bangor University and Coleg Menai using the stadium and North Wales Police in December, this reinforces the progression being made on the community front.

“It is hoped that educational courses can return soon although there is still work to do although courses may be available by June.

“The function room is back in operation and we are looking forward to its continued development as a community hub.”
