Drivers travelling to Ysbyty Gwynedd are being urged to plan ahead as major roadworks are set to begin on Monday, 21 July, as part of Cyngor Gwynedd’s ongoing Active Travel scheme.

The works, which will affect a key section of Penrhos Road, are expected to last until the end of November, potentially impacting hospital access for both patients and staff.

The affected area includes:

  • The stretch from the junction of Bryn Cilmelyn to the JLS garage, and
  • From the JLS roundabout to the Treborth roundabout.

To manage traffic during the works:

  • Two-way traffic lights will operate between 7:30am and 8:00pm daily.
  • Hospital traffic will be prioritised during peak travel times.
  • To ease congestion, the section between the JLS garage and Treborth roundabout will be closed, with a diversion in place via Capel Graig.
  • The one-way road known locally as Lon Dywyll will remain open throughout the duration of the works.

Health officials and local authorities are strongly encouraging all hospital visitors and patients to allow extra travel time to avoid delays and reduce the risk of missing appointments.
